Two-location drug bust targets Fernandina home

On Friday, April 8, 2022, Sheriff Bill Leeper announced that the Nassau County Narcotics Task Force raided two drug houses, one in Fernandina Beach and one in Jacksonville. Three individuals were arrested with drugs and weapons seized during the raids.

On Wednesday, April 6, 2022, members of the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, with assistance from the Fernandina Beach Police Department, served a search warrant at 619 South 10and Fernandina Beach Street. Nassau County Narcotics Task Force detectives searched the residence and found illegal drugs inside, including marijuana, cocaine, and MDMA (ecstasy/Molly), along with paraphernalia. of drug consumption and digital scales. Two people were arrested during the raid. Gus Antonio Holcey, 41, of Fernandina Beach, was charged with (3) counts of drug possession, (1) count of possession of drug paraphernalia and keeping a place where drugs are sold/kept and declared a public nuisance. Darien Jovon Owens, 25, of Fernandina Beach, was charged with (2) counts of possession of drugs and (1) count of possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a school or a public park.

42.6 grams of marijuana were seized from the home individually weighed and packaged ready for sale; 0.3 grams of powdered cocaine and 3.4 grams of MDMA (ecstasy/molly). In the residence, detectives located numerous drug paraphernalia such as (cigars, a glass pipe and digital scales with residue). A total of $1,090 was located and seized from the property.

On Thursday, April 7, 2022, members of the NCSO Narcotics Task Force assisted the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) with a search warrant located at 1829 Biscayne Circle Jacksonville. The search warrant was part of a joint investigation that began in Nassau County. During the operation, 26-year-old Jacksonville suspect Jadarien Turner was arrested inside the residence and charged with the following: (1) count of armed possession of illicit drugs, (1) count of possession of marijuana with intent to sell and (1) count of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. There were two young children (1 month and 3 years old) inside the residence at the time of the search and DCF will be contacted to investigate.

Detectives seized the following items from the residence; 3 pounds of marijuana, 3.8 grams of cocaine, 4.1 grams of Oxycodone 10 mg tablets, approximately 4 grams of suspected heroin, 5 cartridges of THC, 2 firearms with ammunition, 4 extra magazines (including 2 extended). Also in the residence, detectives found numerous items of drug paraphernalia such as (several large vacuum sealed bags containing marijuana residue and several other suspected contraband narcotics). A total of $8,019 in US currency was seized from the property.

“These drug dealers prey on other drug addicts and profit from them,” Sheriff Leeper said. “You’d think with all the ‘Help Wanted’ signs everywhere and companies looking for people to work, they’d find real work to earn money legally and avoid jail time.”
