Columbus Parks and Rec community centers closed Tuesday due to weather conditions

COLUMBUS (WCMH) – Columbus Parks and Recreation announced the closure of its community centers on Tuesday to allow staff to focus on essential services during the winter that is hitting the region.

All classes and programs scheduled for Tuesday are cancelled. However, some sports facilities will be open for league and tournament games in the evening.

“The safety of Columbus residents and our employees remains a top priority,” said Paul Rakosky, acting director of the Columbus Department of Recreation and Parks. “By focusing on emergency services during this winter storm, we can keep Columbus safe.”

In bad weather, the ministry’s maintenance and forestry division is responsible for tree maintenance and snow removal, the ministry said in a news release.

The sports facilities that will be open on Tuesday evening include:

  • Lou Berliner sports complex, 1300 chemin Deckenbach.
  • Big Run Sports Complex, 4205 Clime Rd.
  • Bill McDonald Sports Complex, 4990 Olentangy River Rd.
  • Cleo Dumaree Sports Complex, 276 S. Nelson Rd.
  • Willis Sports Complex, 2520 Mock Rd.
