RAPID CITY, SD—The City is participating again this holiday season in the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program with several tree locations.

The public is encouraged to stop by any of the Angel Tree locations around town, pick up an Angel Tree gift tag containing a child’s generic information, purchase an item, and drop off the tag with the unpackaged item in the same location. For a second year there is an option to purchase online, using the link on the back of the tag, with the toy shipped directly to the Black Hills Salvation Army. There is also a QR scan code option on the back of the label.

The deadline for submitting gifts is Monday, December 12. There are many Angel Tree locations in Rapid City, including City Hall at 300 Sixth Street; the Rapid City Fire Department at 10 Main Street; the Rapid City Police Department Records Division at the Public Safety Building, 300 Kansas City Street; and the Roosevelt Park Ice Arena, 235 Waterloo Street. The Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department also participates with an Angel Tree among its staff.

Additional drop off locations are at the Salvation Army in Rapid City at 405 N. Cherry, or at Spearfish at 320 Ryan Road.

“It’s a simple process, but one that can have a huge impact on many children in our community this holiday season,” said Mayor Steve Allender. “You just take a tag, buy the item and drop it off. Or with online shopping options, simply take the tag, purchase the item online and have it shipped directly to The Salvation Army.

“It is a difficult time for many families during the holiday season and this year has been extremely difficult for many due to inflation and high costs for families paying for essential items such as food, fuel and clothing,” Allender said. The tree program is an opportunity to brighten up the holiday season for many children and their families.

City locations include:

*Town Hall/300 Sixth Street: Gift tags are currently available from the Mayor’s office prior to the Thanksgiving holiday and can be removed from the Angel Tree which will be located in the lobby of City Hall after Thanksgiving. Unwrapped gifts and tags can be placed near the tree or taken to the Mayor’s office on the third floor.

*Rapid City Fire Department/10 Main Street: Gift tags are available now at Firehouse 1 and can also be picked up from the Firehouse Angel Tree at Firehouse this week. Gift tags and gifts are placed under the tree at the location. When the tags are gone, the public is still encouraged to drop off unwrapped gifts to be donated to The Salvation Army.

* Quick City Police Department: Visit the Angel Tree at the Public Safety Building, 300 Kansas City Street. The tree is up, decorated and open for business! If the public would like to pick up a tag or drop off a toy, call the Police Archives at 605-394-4117 and an Archives staff member will meet with them in the lobby of the Public Safety Building.

* Roosevelt Park ice rink: The property’s angel tree with gift tags will also be in place this week. The public can pick up gift tags and return the gift to the establishment.
