BELMAR, NJ – Get your green hats ready, Jersey Shore residents.
Belmar’s 49th Annual Lake Como St. Patrick’s Day kicks off at 12:30 p.m. on Lake Como’s Main Street via Belmar on March 6.
According to Belmar Police Department Chief Tina Scott, the Belmar and Lake Como Public Works Department will begin placing barricades along Main Street from 5th Avenue South to Boulevard North beginning at 6 a.m. morning Sunday.
Main Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic beginning at 8 a.m. for the duration of the parade.
“If you need to travel to areas east of Main Street, please use 5th Avenue or Ocean Avenue through Spring Lake. Eastbound and westbound traffic will be permitted on 8th Avenue, 12th Avenue and the eastbound traffic on 18th Avenue until 11:30 a.m.,” Scott said in a Facebook post.
All of North Boulevard from B Street to Main Street will be closed starting at 7 a.m.
Proof of residency will be required to travel east of Main Street in the 18th Avenue and North Boulevard area, Scott said. Assembly areas for parade participants will also be located on the west side of 18th Avenue.
The Belmar and Lake Como Parade is perhaps one of the largest in New Jersey, with over 200,000 spectators attending the event each year.
Amanda Cregan of Wall and Craig Coyle of Neptune will be the Grand Marshals of the 2022 parade. An Investiture Mass honoring the Grand Marshals – both known for their passion for Ireland’s cultural heritage – will take place at 10am on March 5 at St. Rose’s Church (601 Seventh Avenue). Lunch will follow at Dollan’s Shore Club (500 Route 71) in Spring Lake Heights.
